B & T Porcelain Dolls began when
two sisters with a love of doll-making decided it was time to venture out on
their own. Actually, it began
when their step-mother started giving them a doll each year for Christmas. Each year, we (the sisters), found more and more dolls that
we liked and more and more dolls that we wanted our step-mother to make for
us. Finally, she decided it was
time for us to learn how to make dolls on our own.
Susan, the older sister, went to a doll class in Morganton, NC at
World of Dolls. She decided she
liked it. She then found out
that there was a doll shop called Little Bits located in her hometown of
Chester, SC and that they offered classes.
She then proceeded to talk her mother, Ann and sister, Ruthayn into
taking a class with her as a girls night out and family time.
Once we began taking classes, we were hooked. The owner of the shop, Ursula Butler, often hired them to
help fill orders she received. She
paid them by letting them make another doll at cost.
This went on for several years and the sisters decided it was time to
open their own shop. The owner
of the old shop decided she no longer wanted to teach doll-making because
she had been doing it for 10 years and decided that the sisters were the
ones who should take over the shop. The
name was changed to B & T Porcelain Dolls and is now owned and operated
by the sisters, Susan Treveiler and Ruthayn Burdette.
Their mother, Ann now does much of the sewing and their step-mother,
Pat does much of the selling. |
